Desciption
The European Union has been progressively establishing a common energy policy; the Lisbon Treaty in place since December 2009 has now also introduced a legal basis for the energy policy of the EU as well as significant changes such as energy solidarity. The seminar will address a large scope of issues contained in the European energy policy and will attempt to examine the future developments and opportunities offered by this policy. It will focus in particular on the three main axes on which the European Energy Policy is built: the internal energy market, energy and climate change and security of supply. The seminar will provide participants with an overview of relevant legislation and future developments.

Method
A combination of presentations and interactive discussions will be offered to the participants who will be encouraged to contribute to the different sessions by sharing their views and expertise.

Objectives
The programme will enhance participants’ understanding of how EU energy policy functions under the Lisbon Treaty as well as providing them with the necessary knowledge, tools and skills to work more effectively at the EU and national level in the specific area of energy policy.

Target Group
This seminar is intended for officials from central ministries and/or other authorities of the Member States, as well as professionals from the private sector who work in the field of EU energy and are interested in gaining further and up-to-date expertise in this domain.
