European negotiations; EU Presidency; EU institutions and decision-making
Alain Guggenbühl is Senior Lecturer at EIPA, leading the institute’s programmes on European negotiations and the EU Presidency. He has 20 years of experience working with EU institutions and national administrations, incoming EU Presidencies, third countries and overseas territories, diplomatic academies and universities, business organizations and social partners, regional and local authorities. He offers expertise in a range of fields including training, coaching and research on negotiations with and within the EU; engineering of EU regulatory affairs; advocacy; cross-cultural communication; and problem-solving in multilateral processes.
He has graduated in International Relations at the University of Louvain and Advanced European Studies at the College of Europe. He also holds certificates from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management and the American Graduate University. He has previously worked for the delegation of the European Commission to the United Nations in New York and directed an EU law office in Brussels. He has also long lectured on Negotiation Theory and European Policies at the University of Mons. He is a member of Team Europe, a pool of lecturers managed by the European Commission. He has published on relations between the EU and Eastern Europe, the simplification of European law, Openness and Transparency, EU Social legislation, the Presidency of the Council of the EU, and EU negotiations.
